Core Information

What is a core/core deposit?

A core refers to certain parts on your car that can be removed and rebuilt to manufacturer’s standards. Here at Coventry West, we sell many rebuilt parts for far less than what you would pay for a comparable new part at a Jaguar or Land Rover dealer. In order to continue to be able to provide that service, for every rebuilt part that we sell to our customers, we need to receive a rebuildable core in exchange. That core will be rebuilt and purchased by other customers as a high quality alternative to new parts. A core deposit (also called a core charge or core exchange) is added on to most rebuilt parts to encourage customers to send their defective but rebuildable cores back to us so that we may continue to offer rebuilt parts. Once you send your rebuildable core back to us, the core deposit will be refunded back to you.

How do I know if my core is rebuildable?

In order to receive your full core deposit back, the core you send back to us needs to be in rebuildable condition. For insight as to what constitutes a rebuildable core, please see the detailed descriptions of our rebuilding process for each part in our rebuild department section of our website. If you have any further questions regarding whether or not your core is rebuildable, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you. Please note that cores that are damaged or missing components will either receive partial credit or no credit at all.

How do I return a core?

When you receive your order for a rebuilt part, you should receive an invoice and a Return Authorization Number (also called a Returned Materials Authorization). If you did not receive an invoice and a Return Authorization Number, please contact your salesman so that we can get those to you right away. Once you have the Return Authorization Number, please write it legibly on the outside of the package and ship it back to us to the address on the invoice by any trackable method you prefer. For items that were shipped in special containers, we highly recommended reusing those containers to ship the core(s) back.

How long does it take to process my core refund?

Please allow up to thirty (30) days from our receipt date for credit processing. Refunds for cores sent back without a Return Authorization Number will be significantly delayed or refused.

What else do I need to know about returning a core?

  • Cores must be received within ninety (90) days of original purchase date to be eligible for credit unless prior arrangements are made
  • Genuine Jaguar and Land Rover cores (cores for items that were shipped in an original Jaguar or Land Rover package) must be returned in the original packaging.
  • Cores returned MUST match the style and type of part purchased. For example, a steering rack core must include the same components attached to it that the rebuilt unit had. Cores must be rebuildable to receive full credit.
  • Adjustments to core credit refunds may be made in cases of incorrect, incomplete, disassembled and/or damaged cores.
  • Cores MUST be drained of all fluids.
